Welcome!

What is The Rekindle Foundation? What do we do? What are we involved with? For answers to these and many other questions, scroll the Links on the side of our Homepage and hopefully you'll find an answer you're looking for! But for now, here is a brief History of Rekindle.....

How we began.....

We began as a small group composed of former campers and counselors who started a grass roots campaign to save Camp Walter Scott with a Facebook page. For us, we came to know Christ through the friendships we formed as Disciples of Christ youth at Camp Walter Scott. We remember learning and growing through the leadership of pastors such as Jay Johnson, Arvil Bass, Bob Brite, Randy Williams, Linda Mervine, David Merrick, Gail Bell, and countless others.

Shortly after attending some of the Listening Meetings that were held at area churches to hear about the less than ideal state of affairs at our beloved campground and hearing of the possibility of this sacred place being put up for sale, a handful of us began communicating with members of the Christian Church of Illinois-Wisconsin (CCIW) Regional staff about our desire to facilitate a plan to help save Camp Walter Scott from being sold. An official proposal from our group entitled “Rekindling the Spark” was brought forth to the CCIW Regional Board of Directors in October of 2011. This proposal outlined steps that needed to be taken to financially revitalize Camp Walter Scott. The proposal was unanimously passed with a 2 year window of opportunity, and the long road ahead of us of hard work begun.

The Rekindle Foundation realizes the difficult challenges of revitalizing Camp Walter Scott. But we are very dedicated to maintaining this sacred place as a site that provides outdoor facilities for Disciples of Christ (DOC) churches, to make it a place for other (non-DOC) groups of people to use for outdoor educational experiences and enjoyment, and to strengthen the facility so that it becomes a constant and dependable source of revenue for the camping programs. To do this, we need time, talent, donations, and prayers of others throughout the state.

We are a not-for-profit tax exempt organization with the IRS. Our main focus areas include:
1) Facilitate fundraising efforts, with all money received going directly towards campground improvements. These improvements will be prioritized by the CCIW’s Outdoor Ministries Committee and members of our Foundation.
2) To better market and promote the campground for usage to both CCIW camps and to outside groups.
3)  Provide financial assistance that will contribute to the betterment, growth and sustainability of Camp Walter Scott.
4) Apply for grant opportunities to help bring in additional money for the camp.
